It’s the perfect on-court armour…a shoe that actually becomes your foot.

Under Armour made a big splash in the basketball sneaker scene with the signing of Steph Curry and the release of the Anatomix Spawn, which curry rocked last season. The sneaker boasts of an anatomically correct fit around the foot that provides security and stability on the court. With its solid performance and unconventional design, the Anatomix Spawn quickly turned heads and made Under Armour a solid player in the performance basketball category. A few months ago, Under Armour finally entered our shores with the debut of the Anatomix Spawn 2. The Spawn 2 takes the same performance capabilities of the Spawn 1 with a few modifications to its design and we’re here now to give you a breakdown of this solid shoe. Let’s get to it!

CUSHIONING

The Anatomix Spawn 2 uses full-length Micro G cushioning, Under Armour’s foam technology that’s developed to be lighter and bouncier. Right off the box it felt great, providing a good mix of softness and firmness. I could definitely feel it on targeted areas on the heel and forefoot. On the court it was excellent. The shoe was very responsive all throughout and still firm enough for that stability you need. Cutting and shifting direction felt quicker with no wasted movements. This is definitely a big plus for quick guards. The forefoot provides a certain bounce effect which I definitely felt when I pushed off and the heel cushioning provides a great crash pad for your landings. Overall this is one of the best rides out there for a basketball shoe. If you haven’t tried them on then I suggest you go cop a pair right away.

FIT

The Anatomix Spawn is all about the Fit. Patterned after the foot’s anatomy, Under Armour aims to give you the perfect fit for ultimate lockdown and support. They fit true to size but you can go half a size up like I did if they feel a bit too snug for you. It felt better for me while still having that snug fit. Lockdown and fit are just perfect and definitely one of the best I’ve played in. The upper uses Flexgear which is a layered system just like fuse that works with the bones, muscles and tendons of your foot to give you more support where you need it and less everywhere else. The key is having thicker areas along the upper like the heel, ankle and eyelets to give you ultimate support and comfort. Once you have it on it feels one with your foot. It’s snug everywhere and yet very comfortable all around. UA promises zero dead space along the whole shoe and that’s exactly what you get.

BREATHABILITY

The Anatomix Spawn has a base layer of mesh around the whole upper which makes it breathable. You can see it when you look inside the shoe. Perforations on the thin fuse layer are present all around the upper and a full mesh tongue just adds to the air flow. The shoe does really well in this area and you won’t have issues with any hot spots.

TRACTION

Great traction overall as the shoe uses full herringbone from heel to forefoot. I was able to cut, stop and shift direction with ease. The rubber is a bit thinner though so you might want to stick to wooden courts for balling. Nothing special added but the traction works perfectly. Just lace them up and go.

SUPPORT

The Anatomix Spawn offers great support which mainly comes from its perfect fit. The shoe wraps around your foot and keeps it locked in. Even if the shoe is a bit slender it still offers great support because you feel one with the shoe and you’re protected all around. A TPU shank is found on the midfoot area which rides up the lateral side to give you more stability and support when you make sudden stops. I really liked how I was able to shift direction quickly without losing any time and wasting energy.

Overall the Anatomix Spawn 2 is a great shoe to play in. I liked everything form the cushioning to the support and the perfect fit. It performs well in all areas and with its price it’s definitely worth buying. If you haven’t tried hooping on them I think you’re missing out. Easily one of the best shoes out now in the market. The Spawn 2 is available in several colorways at all Titan shops for P6,795. You can also get them at the Under Armour store at BGC.
